Police investigate MLK/Union drive-by shooting — UPDATE: Suspect arrested

A male victim was shot in the leg in an apparent drive-by on E Union near MLK Monday afternoon.

Seattle Police and Seattle Fire were called to the nearby Grocery Outlet where the 22-year-old victim was found around 12:45 PM after the shooting along the street near the store. According to East Precinct radio reports, the gunshot wound victim was conscious but we have no further details on his condition. UPDATE: Police say his injuries were not life-threatening.

UPDATE 8/7/2018 10:15 AM: Police say they have made an arrest in the case:

Gang Unit detectives identified the suspect. The suspect and his vehicle were located yesterday late afternoon on First Hill. Detectives conducted surveillance as SWAT arrested the 28-year-old suspect and detectives served a search warrant on the suspect’s residence and vehicle. Two handguns were recovered. The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail on a number of gun-related charges. This remains an active and on-going investigation.

Police closed streets in the area as they collected evidence and searched for two suspects described who left the scene in a grey or blue sedan last seen eastbound on Union from MLK. Police said the victim was not being cooperative, according to radio reports, but officers had security video from the scene to help identify the shooter and any accomplices.

UPDATE 8/6/2018 3:28 PM: SPD posted a brief on the shooting:

Detectives will be handling the investigation following a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in the Central District. A 22-year-old man was struck in the leg and was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he will be treated for his non life-threatening injuries. At 12:45 pm witnesses called 911 reporting hearing several gunshots near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and East Union Street. Officers responded and located the victim in the parking lot of a business in the 2700 block of East Union Street. Officers secured the scene while Seattle Fire treated the victim’s injuries. Investigators later determined that a suspect, described as a black male, driving a green colored sedan, drove out of the parking lot and fired several shots at the victim, striking him. The suspect vehicle continued eastbound on East Union Street. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Seattle Police.

Capitol Hill is completely gentrified, and there are still muggings, gay bushings, shootings, people shooting up drugs in public, tents filled with the homeless, etc.

So-called “gentrifying” doesn’t keep out cars and visitors.

Once the Midtown parking lot and the stretch of Spring between 23rd and 24th stops being a gathering place for gambling, drugs, and prostitution, I doubt the criminal element will be doing much “visiting” to the neighborhood anymore.
