I drank this on Capitol Hill: Linda’s Old Fashioned

Joey Atkins, a bartender at Linda’s Tavern, is originally from Cincinnati and has been back in Seattle for three years. When he’s not slinging drinks, he’s playing guitar, riding his skateboard, or watching horror movies.

Atkins’s favorite drink to make at Linda’s is the Old Fashioned. “It’s one of those staple drinks. We don’t do anything fancy, but it’s a good in-between for this place if you want something different, but not too bougie.”

His take on the classic cocktail uses a five count of Old Overholt rye whiskey built in a pint glass, heavy with the bitters, and a dash of simple syrup (or sugar cubes if available). A stir, an orange peel, a strain onto clean ice and a bourbon soaked cherry to top brings Linda’s Old Fashioned to life.

I drank this on Capitol Hill is a semiregular photographic tour of some of Capitol HIll’s best cocktails and libations. Have a suggestion for something we should drink? Let us know in comments.

Oh, I probably have too many ideas but a few are: any frozen drink at Nacho Borracho but mostly the pink guava moscow mule. How popular is it? Why is it so delicious?

Anything at Herb and Bitter!

Oh, the Bait Shop too! Also, how about one of the baiju (Chinese white liquor) cocktails at Lionhead or Plenty of Clouds?

Even the best Old Fashioned is ruined with ice cubes like these.
