Monica Dimas is ready to pass along the late night eats torch on E Olive Way.

The restaurateur behind some of Capitol Hill and beyond’s best nook and cranny-filing food and drink goodness announced over the weekend that her walk-up Tortas Condesa will close at the end of the month.

“Thanks everyone who has supported us over the last 3+ years of torta goodness!,” the announcement reads. “We will be closing at the end of February and letting a new person take over our awesome window.”

Dimas opened the Mexican sandwich counter in late 2015 where the new joint took up the late night eats beat for Kedai Makan after it graduated from the counter into a full-blown restaurant space around the corner.

Dimas, a new mother and busy entrepreneur, will still have her hands full. Her Little Neon Taco opened on First Hill early last year and was one of the highlights of Seattle’s 2018 restaurant crop. Her Sunset Fried Chicken, meanwhile, is lined up to be part o the offerings at Sea-Tac’s Concourse D. She also now runs the kitchen at Queer/Bar and continues to operate Neon Taco inside Broadway’s Nacho Borracho,and the Westman’s Bagels walk-up on E Madison.

Like Neon Taco’s symbiotic relationship with Nacho Borracho, Nacho’s E Olive Way cousin Montana is also a big part of the Tortas Condesa location’s business. No word on what will come next for the extremely walkable neighborhood but feel free to start some tasty speculation. The new player will give us a new entrant to add to our rapidly shrinking new bars and restaurants to look forward to in 2019 roster.

Fortunately, you also have a few weeks left to say adios to Tortas Condesa. After that, you can still find the Dimas sandwiches at the Neon Taco joints.
