Lumbersexuals and locals who prefer gloomy Northwest weather can work out anger issues regarding impending spring and summer at Blade & Timber, a newly opened axe-throwing bar on Broadway. During opening weekend, groups dressed entirely in flannel get a discount, and social-media savvy axe-perts could win free axe-throwing for a year. THURSDAY, March 21: Those who don’t know comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish must have lived under a big, grim rock for the past couple of years. In November 2017, she made history by becoming the first black female stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. That year, Vanity Fair also called her “the funniest person alive right now.” Check in to see whether that still rings true on Thursday at the Paramount. Paramount, 7.30 PM
FRIDAY, March 22: There are three kinds of people: The ones who see each birthday as cause for celebration, those who see it as just another step towards the final resting place, and then the last group, joyfully dancing to the grave. The Pine Box, Capitol Hill’s première beer hall housed in a former funeral parlor, falls into the latter. “It’s time again to put one more nail in the coffin,” reads the invitation to their 7th-anniversary party this Friday. SATURDAY, March 23: Doughnut purists might balk at the idea of gluten-free, organic, plant-based sinkers, but they’d be missing out on the whimsical creations of Wink Doughnuts, including the Sweet Chai o’ Mine and Lavender Love Note. The pop-up bakery is coming to the Hill this weekend during Wink Doughnuts PopUp shop at the slightly tucked-away Ghost Note Coffee. For purveyors of fine doughnut pairings, the folks at Wink Doughnuts recommend Ghost Note’s iced coffee with citrus-flavored Delia doughnuts. Ghost Note Coffee, 11 AM
SATURDAY, March 23: Look, we appreciate word play once in a while, but the jury’s still out on the triple pun action in “Seattle Hulaballoza,” a hula hoop spin on the fictional Hullabalooza festival in The Simpsons, itself a play on the Lollapalooza music festival and the word hullabaloo. Anyway, for those still reading: Aspiring hula-hoopers can learn the basics of mastering the art with dancer Medusa McKell during a 2-hour training/dance session this weekend. SUNDAY, March 24: A little over two years ago, local artist Diane Knoll opened Vibrant Palette Arts Center, a professional studio that hosts visual arts day programs for adult artists with disabilities. Last spring, co-working and event space The Cloud Room recognized Knoll with its Social Innovation Scholarship, and now provides the space for Vibrant Palette’s fundraiser. Artworks by VPAC artists such as Cathy Nakamura, Matthew Whittaker, and Kristy Yawman will be available for purchase. Maggie McGehee will deliver a piano soundtrack to accompany cocktail-sipping and appetizer-noshing. The Cloud Room, 1 – 4PM
