  • Broadway fires: Investigators were collecting evidence after Seattle Fire quickly handled a set of suspicious fires along Broadway Friday morning that roasted a dumpster and charred a Seattle Weekly newspaper box. SFD was called to the dumpster fire in the 300 block of Broadway E just after 5:30 AM and found the large garbage bin near the Teriyaki and Wok in flames, according to emergency radio dispatches. Firefighters were able to quickly douse the fire with water before it threatened nearby buildings and a propane tank. About 20 minutes later, Seattle Police reported a newspaper box outside the 200 block Broadway E building home to Jai Thai was also on fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the small fire in a Seattle Weekly paper box using only a pump can. Both fires were being investigated as suspicious. There were no reported injuries. Lanes of Broadway were temporarily closed to traffic during the responses.

  • Broadway ‘rope rescue’: A large Seattle Fire response was quickly scaled down Thursday morning after an injured worker needed to be lifted down off the site of the mixed-use development construction underway at Capitol Hill Station. The “rope rescue” response in the 100 block of Broadway E just after 11 AM ended up requiring SFD units to help lower the man from the under construction building. We do not have information on the nature of his injuries which were non life threatening but a SFD spokesperson said the man in his 40s was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
  • Summit/Howell window washer ‘rescue’: Seattle Fire was called to a seven story building at Summit and Howell just before 11 AM last Friday to a report that a window washer was hanging from the building in distress. Arriving units found the washer was having trouble with equipment but not in need of rescue. The engine on hand made its long ladder available for the washer to walk down to safety. There were no reported injuries.
