Capitol Hill Pets | The cats of Twice Sold Tales

Eleanor

Jamie Lutton is a familiar face behind the counter of Twice Sold Tales. You may recognize the cats as well. While four cats live in the store, they aren’t really anyone’s specific pets. “They’re actually here to keep mice out of the building,” Lutton tells CHS. “There are lots of rats and mice because they eat the scraps from Dick’s… their job is to make sure we don’t have any trouble like that.”

“They make a lot of friends, but they’re also tax deductible, they provide ambiance, they’re on my sign,” Lutton says.

While you’re buying your stack of used books — and if you aren’t allergic — give those kitties a pet.

We ask photographer Alex Garland to follow marchers in the rain and do crazy things like trying to make yet another picture of yet another huge apartment building look interesting. We thought we’d ask him to do something a little more fun. Capitol Hill Pets is a semi-regular look at our furry, fuzzy, feathered, and finned friends found out and about on Capitol Hill.

Thank you, I love this. Great shot of Eleanor. I should really visit that store another time, it’s been ages.

I like to pick Eleanor and walk around the store scritching her as I browse. She’s a peach.
