With details of the cornerstone retailer in place, we’re also getting an idea of some of the smaller pieces of commercial activity that will be part of the mixed-use development of housing, groceries, day care, businesses, and a new plaza above Broadway’s Capitol Hill Station.

According to city permits, a Trophy Cupcakes shop is also in the works for one of the development’s retail berths.

The small project will create a new Trophy selling pre-made cupcakes and merchandise. The 2007-founded Seattle company currently operates five locations in the area. Capitol Hill’s existing cupcake royalty, Jody Hall’s Cupcake Royale, debuted on E Pike in 2009. We’re waiting to hear back from Trophy for any more details about the Broadway shop.

The new Trophy is set to join the planned expansion of Korean grocery chain H Mart at Capitol Hill Station. The grocer is planning a 16,000-square-foot store with a second-level food court mezzanine as the retail centerpiece to the new buildings rising around the busy transit hub. In addition to H Mart, a daycare facility is planned to be part of the retail offerings in the project.

The under construction development includes new retail, 428 housing units — around 180 of which are planned to be affordable housing, and a new community plaza featuring the AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathway remembering those who have succumbed to — and those who have survived HIV and AIDS.

Capitol Hill Station’s coming plaza will also become the new home for the weekly Capitol Hill farmers market. And there have been plans for opportunities for small retailers to set up in the area as a micro business marketplace but details have not been announced by lead developer Gerding Edlen.

While most shoppers will likely ride light light rail or walk to the store, the development will also welcome drivers with a planned 216 parking stalls for cars. Bicyclists will also be accommodated with parking for more than 250 riders.

The projects are planned to open in late 2020.
