East Precinct police and responding Seattle Fire Department teams appear to have saved a man’s life after he reportedly doused himself and a Central District residence with gasoline and set a fire in an incident that started late Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to E Jefferson just before 4:30 PM Sunday to a report of a man in crisis at the location who had reportedly poured gasoline over himself and was threatening to light himself on fire. After the initial response, police located the man inside a residence at the location.

According to Seattle Police radio updates, the man appeared to have doused himself and a residence with fuel and was threatening to start a fire.

After a short standoff as Seattle Fire units arrived and set up around the location, there were reports of fire inside the residence and emergency responders moved in to knock down the flames.

Police reported the man in crisis was taken into custody without further incident during the response.

We do not yet have information on any injuries or damage suffered in the incident.
