A Broadway clinic, now available. Thanks to reader Sandy for the tip.

Despite an industry so robust that Broadway has two Zoom Cares within five blocks, the street’s urgent care resources took a hit last week, leaving the transformed former home of a classic Capitol Hill restaurant in need of a new tenant.

CityMD, the urgent care brand partnered with Tacoma’s CHI Franciscan Health, quietly pulled the plug on its Broadway outlet after exactly two years of service on the street. While there was no announcement of the closure, CHS confirmed the shuttering with a call to the chain’s customer service. There are five “still left” in Washington, the helpful operator said. The closest CityMD clinic can now be found in West Seattle. The chain also operates in New York and New Jersey.

CityMD debuted on Broadway in November of 2017 in the transformed space formerly home to classic dive Charlie’s which finally gave up the ghost after an unsuccessful reopening under new ownership.

Its arrival was part of a trend coinciding with the opening of Capitol Hill Station that brought a flurry of minute clinic activity to the street. Zoom Care operates two clinics on the street after joining the Broadway mix way back in 2011. A former Blockbuster now houses an Immediate Clinic. With five clinics, the industry was threatening to outnumber Starbucks outlets on the street.

Now there are four.

There are no signs of what might come next for the space but CHS recommends that tattoo parlors looking for a new home should take note. The infrastructure of medical clinics can be useful framework to build on. Laughing Buddha took advantage of a former dental clinic space when it spread out in a fancy new home at Broadway and Pine.
