Second Thursdays are now even more art-y on Capitol Hill. The longtime schedule for the neighborhood’s monthly art walk is now also part of the expanded roster of free admission days for the newly reopened Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park.
Both happy events including the first Second Thursday free opening at SAAM and late hours until 9 PM and a special Valentine’s edition of the Capitol Hill Art Walk coincide for the first time Thursday night.
At SAAM, part of the process to plan the museum’s $56 million overhaul and expansion was a new lease for the city-owned building that included an expanded suite of community benefits including free school visits and a wider schedule of free admission days. Second Thursdays are only part of the fun:
+ FIRST AND SECOND THURSDAYS FREE TO ALL
+ FIRST FRIDAY FREE TO SENIORS
+ FIRST SATURDAYS FREE TO ALL
The new lease also requires SAAM admission be a suggested donation for visitors who can’t afford full price. You can learn more here.
Meanwhile, across Capitol Hill, more than 30 cafes, bars, restaurants, galleries, and venues are officially participating (and many more, unofficially) in the February edition of the monthly art walk. For Valentine’s, expect plenty of hearts, love, and, if you’re lucky, sex on the walls. Full listings of participating venues can be found at capitolhillartwalk.com.
You can also find more art walk highlights and plenty of other things to do around the Hill this weekend on the CHS Calendar.[ai1ec view="posterboard" events_limit="10"]
