- Shootings and CD driveby: A ripple of gun violence that has hit Seattle included another reported driveby incident late Monday night in the Central District. There were no reported injuries in the 10:45 PM round of gunfire reported around the 100 block MLK Way but one victim was taken to the hospital in an earlier shooting that took place in South Seattle and included a shot up car being abandoned along I-5 on the way to the hospital. Police say the male victim remains hospitalized at Harborview after being shot in the chest. According to police, the South Seattle shooting happened around 10 PM near S Weller and involved a vehicle speeding from the scene carrying a person shot in the exchange. That car with a shot out window was reportedly ditched near the Dearborn I-5 onramp where the victim was loaded into another vehicle before being dropped at nearby Harborview. Police say the vehicle that carried the victim sped away and was able to elude officers in pursuit. About 45 minutes later, police responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired near MLK in the Central District. There were no injuries and a vehicle believed to have been hit in the gunfire turned out to have been hit in a previous shooting its owner told police, according to East Precinct radio dispatches.
The shooting incidents follow a string of gun violence that has taken shape across Seattle in recent days including two people hit by gunfire in separate driveby incidents early Monday. Last Thursday, CHS reported on an afternoon shootout near Powell Barnett Park that left no reported injuries. Meanwhile last Wednesday, a violent street robbery ended with gunshots as the suspect reportedly opened fire on a witness but missed. Police are investigating the incidents including gang unit detectives who were called to Harborview Monday night.
- Broadway Market QFC fire: A morning dumpster fire below the Broadway Market QFC filled the store — and the neighborhood — with smoke early Tuesday. Seattle Fire responded to the fire in the shopping complex’s underground parking garage just after 4 AM and were able to quickly knock the garbage fire down — but not before the fire filled the area with smoke. SFD was working to ventilate the store so it could open for regular business. Broadway was closed to traffic through part of the response.
- Social distancing at Denny Blaine Park: Seattle Police got a report of a group exhibiting poor social distancing Friday night in Denny Blaine Park. A 911 caller reported a group was in the park naked and smoking marijuana. An officer was dispatched to investigate.
