Fogon family expands on E Pike with La Josie’s

If you are seeking more hope for recovery and moving forward this summer, look to E Pike, with a drink, and a bowl of chips from La Josie’s.

The sister bar to E Pine’s Fogon is now open with “small bites and big margaritas” in the former home of East Trading Co. and the original Sun Liquor Distillery on E Pike between Belmont and Summit.

In addition to bringing a new bar-centered approach to Fogon’s food and drink, the new venture represents the memory of a loved one and a new bond in the family business. La Josie’s honors Jose Ambriz who joined with his uncle Noel Cortez in growing Fogon into a neighborhood mainstay. Ambriz passed away at the age of 35 early last year. Jose’s sister Amparo Ambriz now joins Cortez as a partner in the new family business.

Eater says the new bar is offering limited seating inside and in its sidewalk patio space but not yet offering takeout of its menu of “Mexican comfort food dishes, such as tortas, sopitos, tortilla soup, and prawns cooked in the house’s spicy ‘diabla’ salsa.”

The overhauled space also includes a new mural by artist Son of a Gun.

La Josie’s is now open at 514 E Pike. Hours are Monday to Wednesday 4 to 11 PM, Thursday to Saturday 4 PM to midnight, and Sundays 1 to 10 PM. You can learn more at
