One person was shot and killed early Sunday morning at 10th and Pike.
Seattle Fire reports the man died while paramedics were transporting him to Harborview. Seattle Police said the victim was a 31-year-old man.
A suspect was reported seen running from the area southbound of the shooting first reported around 1:08 AM.
Police made a vehicle stop near Broadway and Union but it is not clear if someone was taken into custody.
The search for the suspect was still underway following the stop and multiple people were detained. According to East Precinct radio, a suspect was identified but it is not clear if that person was taken into custody.
UPDATE: SPD posted a brief update Sunday morning:
Shortly after 1:00 AM, Seattle Police responded to reports of a shooting at that location. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim and began life-saving measures until the Seattle Fire Department took over primary care. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting came as hundreds had celebrated the end of the 2020 presidential election through the day and night nearby along E Pine.
A handgun was reported picked up and taken from the scene by a witness who contacted police from a nearby residence, according to East Precinct radio reports.

Having witnessed a large, heavily armed police presence in the area surrounding the celebration area (specifically 13th and Pine) on Saturday evening, I would like to point out that the large police presence did not prevent this crime from happening. I would also like to point out this occurred at almost exactly the same location where over the summer, murders were blamed on the absence of the police force who had abandoned the area.
It is tragic that this occurred, but evidence would suggest a militarized police presence does not prevent crimes like these from happening. Maybe it’s time to tear down the wall, and start trying to find better solutions.
Logical fallacy but keep spinning your fantasies.
Well lots of cops in the area didn’t prevent this crime from happening. Could it be possible that their attention has been focused on stifling criticism of themselves rather than actually reducing crime?
I’d say the logical fallacy is that since this summer, the first investment in “reimagining police and public safety” was a fortress wall around the police precinct that actively makes daily activities like walking, bicycling and driving in the area more dangerous while projecting a false sense of security that the police have “control” of the neighborhood when they can’t even see out their own windows.
People still kill others while driving drunk. I would like to point out at that a large police emphasis on drunk driving does not prevent these deaths from happening.
It’s tragic that they occur, but evidence would suggest that enforcing existing laws do not prevent deaths from DUIs. Maybe it’s time we stop enforcement of those laws and find better solutions.

So, strategies like education on the dangers of drunk driving, making sure safer options like transit, taxis, and ride share to get people safely home when they’ve been drinking are available, or providing stigma-free substance abuse counseling?
Yeah, those sound great to prevent the crime of drunk driving from happening.
Laws should be enforced, but police typically investigate crimes after they’ve happened (pulling someone off the road after they’ve already committed the crime of drunk driving, for example), but a healthy society prevents more crime than enforcement can deter.
Pulling someone off the road when they are driving drunk prevents other potential crimes from happening. For example, a vehicular homicide or vehicular assault may be avoided by pulling someone over when they are driving drunk. So, enforcement is one way to prevent crimes from being committed.
+1. Agree with DD. The wall is a safety hazard for people walking, biking, driving, and shopping in the neighborhood. Beyond that it sends a terrible message of fear and confrontation with the community. As we’ve seen, right-wing extremist Boogaloo terrorists have been arrested for torching the police station in Minneapolis. That wall is an overreaction to the civil disobedience and minor property damage caused by the black bloc protesters. Removing it would go much further to rebuild community trust than just naming a new tactical protester surveillance squad the “Community Response Group.”
Also, my condolences to Mr. Patterson’s family and loved ones! No one should lose their life this way, especially someone so young.
Thank you. MarQuies is my nephew. We were so close.. I really can’t understand what did he do so bad that this person had to take my nephew’s life. I forgive this person but I want justice for my nephew. MarQuies was a good person ,a loving father and a great nephew
Im really going to miss him. He would come to visit me all the time. We would bowl together. Marquies would bring his kids and we would have dinner together. Family meant everything to MarQuies .. MarQuies also had lots of friends. I can’t believe he is gone, especially in that way ..
Who were the suspects?

Im MarQuies aunt. I like to thank the police for their efforts to save my nephews life. And I also like to thank the firefighters and the people that was there.
What I don’t understand is how with all the people that was there, there are no witnesses.
I know it was probably very scary. I keep going back and forth with this. First I’m so broken and hurt then im angry. The angry is poison so in order to not allow this person to poison me and the love that I have for all people. I have to forgive this person.
I want to let that person know what he took from me and how what he did affected my/families lives.

Hi aunty its Trista thank u for following these details and responding. Ive been searching everywhere for videos or awnsers ir anything im so lost ..my kids needed their daddy i just want him back. I want this person found can u plz send me any videos or details i know all his friends i may be able to identify a suspect or something but no one has showed me anything. :(
