This is so sad and scary. Between the drugstore, the Starbucks and the auto store, I can only imagine how many people were moving through that parking lot, running errands, enjoying the sunshine of a pretty Sunday afternoon. Sending so many healing wishes to all four of the people who were injured, and especially to the two year old.
Disgusting gang violence has got to stop! But then, we have been saying that for years and it continues…..
Exactly! That parking lot has been a problem for a very long time. The stores located there need to speak up and get it cleaned up.
I was in the CD in the 90’s and it was way, way worse. Yes, gun violence has to stop, but don’t think we haven’t made progress.
Your comment is pretty useless. Would you tell that to the family of the 2 year old to cheer them up. Would you reassure all of the people who have witness shootings that happen multiple times at this location every year, that things are getting better. The fact of the matter is its still bad. The fact of the matter is that shootings still repeatedly happen at this same location for the last 30 years, yet very little has been done.
No, his comment gave perspective.
I’ve only lived here a few years but it seems as though gun violence is sadly common along the 23rd street corridor. 23rd and Cherry is a hotspot and this site especially. This mini mall is so bad that I avoid it at all costs. Perhaps the landlords should enforce anti loitering/ trespassing laws in the area and the police should keep beat officers along this corridor. Summer is starting and I’d bet good money the gun violence will continue. A 2 year old is in the hospital listed in critical condition. You’d think we could get our shit together and do something at this point. I’ve emailed Sawant multiple times on this topic ( gun violence in the CD) but just can’t seem to get a response 🙄
In years past I have called Sawant’s office following shootings like this one, and they usually haven’t even heard the news yet. When she does respond, it’s nonsense. Like after a teenager was shot outside Chuck’s last year, her weeks-later response was that we needed more speed bumps. Her “who cares” attitude towards gun violence in the CD is my primary reason to oppose her leadership despite agreeing in principal with her economic positions.
Who are the people that are shooting? I know people say “gangs”, but I find it hard to believe it’s really that opaque. Seems like lots of people know why they’re doing it who they are, but aren’t explaining their rationales?
That parking lot is problematic. Re-developing it into housing (with retail on the bottom) can’t come soon enough.
Oh look, the recall Sawant campaign is capitalizing off of tragedy. Not surprising at all.
I wish it weren’t the case but Sawant IS my city council person. Who should I be reaching out to if NOT her? Sawant doesn’t respond to my emails, in fact she had an out of office response for most of the pandemic. No employer in the private sector would allow that. She blatantly ignores gun violence, doesn’t seem concerned about people dying in her district.
I am praying for the baby. My child goes to Washington Middle School next door, and school opens in a week. I hope the cops come and that they stay, we need their presence at that intersection.
Look all the people complaining 🤣🤣😂😆👇🏾
Of course people are complaining everyone’s complaining. A 2 year old was shot. Unless you’re at South end gang member you’re not happy with that you moron
Nothing random happens in that parking lot. It’s a very tightly controlled drug market.
Some mother probably is saying she has a good son and how he can be so sweet, and how he almost never shoots 2 year olds. Just occasionally.
And? What do you hope to add was that comment?
Report the guy(s) to the police to prevent more children from getting shot?
