You’ll have a few chances to gather to celebrate Pride on Capitol Hill this weekend despite a heat wave and a wave of disappointment for one event’s organizers. Here is an updated look at Pride weekend events around Capitol Hill and the Central District as the city’s largest in-person celebrations have been rescheduled for later in the year.

• AIDS Memorial Pathway Dedication: Capitol Hill’s Pride weekend centerpiece will take place in the Capitol Hill Station Plaza with an event celebrating the dedication of the new memorial pathway connecting the gathering space to Cal Anderson Park. From noon to 3 PM Saturday, organizers say “the community is invited to visit the new pathway to sign a large red ribbon memorializing a loved one, share a message, or sign their name to be a part of this special day in Seattle history.” The ribbon will be part of a new AIDS Memorial Quilt. Artists and The AMP team will be available to answer questions and share more information on the new $2.9 million pathway of art “celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed on throughout the AIDS crisis.”

• The DJ Sessions Silent Concert Session in Cal Anderson: The Seattle Gay News is bringing a “silent” DJ session on Saturday and Sunday to the north end of Cal Anderson where you can put on a pair of headphones and join the dance party.
• Support Taking B[l]ack Pride: Organizers of Saturday’s event in Jimi Hendrix Park celebrating Black queer and trans voices are struggling with the mountain of attention that has come their way this week. Consider pitching in and helping by making a Pride donation to Queer the Land, Trans Women of Color Solidarity Network, and Alphabet Alliance of Color.
• Pride vaccination pop-ups: The Seattle Fire Department is bringing its mobile vaccination team to Capitol Hill this week to offer people an opportunity to help end the pandemic and get some freebies in the process. Thursday, the Quake rugby team will be at Union as part of a vax pop-up offering a free drink along with your shot. Saturday’s day of vaccinations in Chophouse Row, meanwhile, will be hosted by performer Aleksa Manila. The city is also partnering with LGBTQ+ community organizations to canvass the neighborhood to spread the word about the pop-upand provide “culturally responsive health education.” The city says only 69.5% of people ages 20 to 29 have started their vaccination series in the 98122 ZIP code covering central Capitol Hill.
• Seattle Pride — June 26th and 27th: Annual parade organizer Seattle Pride made the call early, announcing in January that its citywide celebrations would move online again in 2021. The details of the online Pride celebration are now out, with “virtual stages” including performances by Big Freedia, Mary Lambert, Perfume Genius, and mxmtoon, and experiences with community leaders and LGBTQ electeds. • Dyke March online: Seattledykemarch.com will host a virtual performer showcase Saturday night.
• Later this summer: Capitol Hill’s PrideFest, organizer of the annual Broadway street fair and Pride festival activities in Cal Anderson Park, is planning a two-day, in-person event on Capitol Hill later this summer once it is safe to fully gather again and October will bring an “All Together Now” event from Seattle Pride. Other events like Dyke March and Trans Pride could also organize rescheduled in-person events.
