  • Armed robbery K9 search: The blocks around a 14th and Howell construction site were locked down as police and a K9 unit searched the area following a reported armed robbery early Thursday morning. Witnesses report SPD patrol vehicles in the area warning residents to stay inside during the canine tracking effort to find a suspect who reportedly held up a construction worker who encountered the man at the residential construction site just before 6 AM Thursday. “On 08-12-2021 at 0555 hours, the male victim entered his construction site to ensure it was ready for the work-day when he was surprised by an unknown suspect who pressed a handgun into his side and demanded the victim empty his pockets or be killed,” the SPD brief on the incident reads. “The victim complied then ran away to borrow a phone to call the police.” According to residents and East Precinct radio reports, police locked down the area around the site for around 30 minutes as they searched for the suspect who had made off with the victim’s wallet and vehicle keys in the robbery. Police say the search was not successful. There were no reported injuries and no arrests.
  • Pedestrian hit: A person struck by a driver at 9th and James early Thursday morning suffered life-threatening injuries, SPD reports. According to the brief on the incident, the pedestrian was hit in the 900 block of James around 12:46 AM and suffered significant injuries. Police say the driver “was interviewed and screened for impairment with negative results.” The pedestrian was taken to Harborview with life-threatening injuries by Seattle Fire. SPD says “there were no indications anything criminal” caused the collision.
  • Self-inflicted shooting: Seattle Fire and police rushed to an 8th Ave luxury apartment building Thursday afternoon in response to a report of gunfire and a suicide in the building. The victim was reported dead at the scene of the 2:15 PM incident. There were no additional reported injuries.
  • First Hill mental crisis: A crisis situation ended without serious injury Wednesday night on First Hill after police say a man being held for mental evaluation after an earlier suicide threat on a freeway overpass escaped custody from a medical facility and made his way to a nearby parking garage where he again threatened to jump. “Resources from 2nd watch and 3rd watch East, CRG, and Hostage Negotiation Team were eventually able to safely take the male into custody after hours long negotiation,” SPD reports about the 7 PM incident in the 700 block of Seneca. The man was eventually booked into jail for outstanding warrants and “a mental health hold,” SPD says.
