Police say drug debt led to reported 23rd Ave shooting incident

Seattle Police says a Monday night gunfire incident on 23rd Ave near Alder appears to have stemmed from an illegal drug debt.

Police say officers were sent to the area around the 200 block of 23rd Ave just before 11 PM after a caller reported someone in a van had opened fire on her vehicle.

According to the SPD brief on the incident, “officers recognized the victim vehicle as frequenting a high drug activity area and expanded their search to that location.”

The van was located in the 800 block of Dearborn and a stop revealed the driver to be a convicted felon with a firearm. Inside the vehicle, police say officers found a loaded small caliber revolver.

According to police, the woman who called 911 was hesitant to identify the suspect but say the man “admitted to the crimes as the female victim owed him money.”

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault and drug charges and the vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.

There were no reported injuries or property damage and shell casings were not located, police say.

Is there a legal drug debt?

Aside from healthcare meds, but traditional bill collectors aren’t resolving them in this manner… yet.

When you don’t have strong policing of gang activity the “collectors” can do what they need to do to collect. lol
