A Wednesday rush hour bank heist on First Hill lasted about 10 minutes and ended with the suspect in handcuffs only a few blocks from the robbery.
Police tracked down the suspect in the just after 5 PM robbery at the Sound Credit Union just a few blocks off Madison where he reportedly sought refuge at the nearby St. James Cathedral.
According to East Precinct radio updates, the suspect dressed all in black walked into the 1100-block credit union around 5:10 PM and handed over a note demanding $200. Staff handed over two $100 bills and the suspect fled the scene.
He was arrested about 10 minutes later and identified by a witness. There were no reported injuries.
Wow all that for $200?! First Hill has been wilding’ lately.,
Really. Would have at least made it an odd amount if only to be the local mystery of the day. Crooks just aren’t creative anymore.
Something tells me it wasn’t for the money.
According to City Attorney candidate Nicole Thomas-Kennedy, if the robber was experiencing homelessness, this is not a crime.
Nonsense. If you don’t like Thomas-Kennedy’s proposed alternative approach to misdemeanors that’s fine, but it doesn’t entitle you to lie about her. She’d be the first to tell you bank robbery is a federal offense, i.e., a crime.
