There were no injuries and no arrests in a Saturday afternoon bout of gunfire and road rage incidents on the usually quiet streets of North Capitol Hill west of Volunteer Park.

According to East Precinct radio updates, a series of road rage calls and hit and run collisions began on Belmont just after 2 PM and continued with gunfire reported near Prospect and Harvard and a hit and run and road rage incident at Broadway and Roy.

Witnesses reported a conflict involving a white Mercedes and a grey Infiniti that include a passenger in the white 4-door reportedly opening fire, plus hit and run damage to other vehicles. Police reported the Infiniti had its driver side window busted out by the gunman and said the Mercedes suffered significant damage to the rear of the vehicle in the 10 minutes of mayhem in the area. It’s not clear if police had located the driver of the Infiniti or other car owners involved in the situation. Police continued to search for the Mercedes last seen fleeing the area eastbound on E Aloha with at least two occupants including the gunman and a driver described as having distinct bleach-blond hair.

Police recovered a component of the handgun used in the shooting from a witness near Broadway and Roy and cordoned off the area around Prospect and Harvard to collect evidence from the shooting.

There were no immediate arrests and no reported injuries.

UPDATE 9/13/2021 4:00 PM: SPD’s brief on the incident reports witnesses saw a “white Mercedes Benz was chasing another vehicle and the front seat passenger of the Mercedes Benz leaned out of the window and shot at the car being pursued.” —

An additional call came in from the same area reporting road rage and two cars chasing each other with the same vehicle description. Officers responded to the area. While officers could not locate any damage or bullet casings, they spoke to a number of witnesses who saw the road rage/shooting incident.

Please continue to provide updates on this story. I was walking my dog on Harvard when those two cars drove by on Prospect. A second after they were out of sight I heard a gunshot, and just a few minutes later saw police in two cruisers looking for the cars involved.

The location described is west of volunteer Park – not east of it.
