If this weekend’s sudden arrival of fall rains has you down, maybe the thought of 25,000 daffodil bulbs blooming in Volunteer Park can help get you through to spring.

The Volunteer Park Trust is planning a massive daffodil planting party in a few weeks to honor a longtime volunteer and lay the groundwork for a beautiful burst of yellow:

Volunteer Park Trust will be planting 25,000 daffodil bulbs on the west side of Volunteer Park on Saturday, October 9th. Join this community-wide effort as we create a stunning, permanent springtime garden bed.

This project is being done in tribute to Doug Bayley, co-founder of Volunteer Park Trust and the visionary who conceived of this beautiful and impressive swath of yellow returning permanently every spring. Flowering bulbs—and daffodils in particular—have long been a component in historic Olmsted-designed landscapes across the country and provide a welcome burst of bright, seasonal color.

Bring your gardening gloves and mask. We will provide tools, bulbs, free coffee & donuts, and water.

Stay for all or part of this event. Groups are encouraged – create a volunteer team of your co-workers!

Meet us at the SW entrance to Volunteer Park – at the staircase across the street from 1065 E. Prospect St.

The party will take place Saturday, October 9th starting at 10 AM as the group gathers and invites volunteers to help fill the park’s western edge slopes with thousands of bulbs between E Prospect and E Highland Dr.
