  • Ambulance fire: Seattle Fire says the actions of an ambulance crew helped prevent possible major damage to First Hill’s Harborview Medical Center after their vehicle caught fire and quickly burned Wednesday night. Seattle Fire was called to the 9th Ave scene around 7:15 PM to the reported burning vehicle at the busy First Hill hospital. A department spokesperson says two members of the private AMR ambulance team noticed smoke from under the hood and quickly moved the vehicle from under the awning at the hospital and down the ramp. “Because of their efforts, the damage was limited to the ambulance itself,” SFD says. “Shortly after they moved it down the ramp to the exit of the hospital, it was engulfed in flames.” There were no reported injuries. Fire investigators ruled the cause as accidental and determined it started in the engine compartment. The destroyed ambulance was valued at $90,000.
  • Arboretum body: Police say homicide detectives found no signs of foul play after a body was found Thursday afternoon in the Arboretum just off Lake Washington Blvd E near the Wilcox Footbridge. SPD says a driver spotted the body around 1:30 PM in the greenbelt near the busy roadway and pedestrian bridge known for frequent tangles with box trucks. “Patrol officers and Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene to find the unidentified female victim deceased,” SPD’s brief on the incident reads. “Almost no clarifying information about the incident was found during the investigation.” A spokesperson for SPD said the death is not considered suspicious but that detectives are awaiting the results of the Medical Examiner investigation.

The ambulance crew also removed oxygen tanks from the ambulance that could’ve caused serious explosions! Well done!
