Capitol Hill Historical Society to hold 2022 annual meeting

Sunday could be a historic day for you.

The Capitol Hill Historical Societyformed only a few years back — will hold its 2022 annual meeting Sunday and everybody is invited.

It’s a good opportunity to get involved. “Though we will have some official membership business, such as voting in the board for the upcoming year, all are welcome, whether members or not,” the invite on the CHS Calendar reads.

Formed way back in the mid-2010s, the society is dedicated to documenting the many histories of Capitol Hill and helping to preserve some of its oldest and most important structures.

Sunday’s virtual meeting will also include a presentation from CHHS board member Tamara Bunnell on her involvement with Friends Across the Wires, a filmed play written and directed by Laura Ferri that explores the impact of the Japanese incarceration on young people in Seattle:

Two of the central characters are based on Louise Tsuboi Kashino and Patsy McInery Love, lifelong friends who attended Capitol Hill’s Broadway High School. Meticulously researched and drawn from interviews and primary sources, the play explores the racism and war hysteria that led to this devastating time in history.
