SDOT seeks volunteer advisors to ‘help shape the future of transportation’ in Seattle

(Image: SDOT)

Would you like to help the city sort out its transportation future all while volunteering your time for no pay only to have your input captured in a slide deck as it is slowly eroded by the Seattle process?

You optimistic types should check out this call to arms from the Seattle Department of Transportation as it looks to fill the citizen ranks of several key advisory boards:

Volunteer Opportunity
Are you passionate about transportation issues facing Seattle? Do you want to help shape the future of transportation in the city
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has openings for volunteer community members for the following advisory boards and committees:

  • Move Seattle Levy Oversight Committee
  • School Traffic Safety Committee
  • Seattle Freight Advisory Board
  • Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board
  • Transit Advisory Board

Application Process

Apply through the City Clerk’s website. You can apply to multiple boards at the same time. Applications for volunteer positions are being accepted until Sunday, March 27, at 11:59 p.m.

SDOT says the six boards and committees rely on volunteer members. “These members bring valuable community perspectives as part of promoting a robust, inclusive public dialogue on projects of a variety of sizes,” the department announcement reads.

If you’re feeling non-cynical and want to help, you can apply at the link above or learn more in this SDOT blog post.

Thank you for speaking the truth! Now — am I the optimist doomed to be ignored at mind-numbing Zoom meetings designed to rubber-stamp pre-ordained City Hall conclusions? Or am I a caustic carper voicing displeasure at news stories only by keyboard? Probably ignored or definitely unnoticed? I’ll be applying.
