With the Seattle International Film Festival’s run already wrapped up this spring in its smaller format pandemic return, the city’s cinematic energy is free to run through Seattle’s film communities. In the Central District this weekend, 17th Ave S’s Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute will host the 19th annual Seattle Black Film Festival running Friday through Sunday:

The 19th annual Seattle Black Film Festival will once again animate the halls of the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute in Seattle’s historically Black Central District, April 29-May 1. The three-day weekend of in-person and video-on-demand screenings, panels, and events will host an international selection of over forty feature films, music videos, documentaries, and short films; showcasing the range and depth of the Black experience on the big screen.

Formerly known as the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival, the festival’s current incarnation under filmmaker Andrea Stuart-Lehalle took shape in 2020 as it relaunched in a streaming-only showcase during the pandemic’s hashest restrictions.
