  • E Howe car chase: A man was arrested early Monday after police say his girlfriend reported he had trapped her inside his car and was threatening to kill her during a slow speed chase across the city that started on the western edge of Capitol Hill and ended miles away on southbound I-5. According to SPD, police received a report just after midnight that the victim had messaged a friend and said she was trapped in her boyfriend’s car and he was threatening to kill her. Police located the car in the 1200 block of East Howe and tried to pull the driver over. The suspect led police on a chase across Capitol Hill at speeds around 30 MPH as the driver blew stop signs and intersections, according to SPD radio updates. The suspect eventually made his way onto I-5  as officers from SPD, King County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington State Patrol followed the suspect. SPD says state troopers were able to place spike strips ahead of the suspect’s vehicle, disabling it on I-5. Police found the victim in the vehicle, unharmed, and arrested the 22-year-old man for felony harassment and eluding.
  • Mystery shooting: A man suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach arrived at First Hill’s Harborview after being dropped off around 5 AM by two other people in a car who fled the scene, police say, in an early Saturday shooting being investigated by SPD. According to police, the victim was in emergency medical surgery and was not able to provide a statement. There were reported shootings earlier in the morning near the West Seattle bridge and at an apartment near 3rd and Pike prior to the victim arriving at Harborview. SPD is investigating. Police say the incident was one of at least two reported shootings on the weekend.
  • Broadway bias arrest: Police arrested a Broadway apartment resident for investigation of a hate crime in a Saturday evening dispute reportedly over noise on the busy street. According to police, the 18-year-old male victim was walking with his mother and two younger siblings in the 400 block of Broadway south of James when an unknown person began yelling at the victim from an apartment window across the street to be quiet. Police say the man and the 18-year-old began to argue when the suspect came outside to confront the victim with bear spray in his hand. Police say the victim ran but the adult male chased after him and reportedly began screaming racial bias slurs at the victim. Police say a witness tried to intervene and stop the suspect’s attack, but the suspect sprayed him in the face with the bear spray. Police arrived after victim’s mother called 911 to report the incident. Police entered the suspect’s apartment building and were able to locate the man where SPD says he admitted to the assault and confrontation. Police say he was booked into jail for investigation of malicious harassment and assault.
  • Man down on E Olive Way: A reported early Saturday morning driver vs. pedestrian collision during busy nightlife hours on E Olive Way turned out to be much less serious. Police and Seattle Fire were called to E Olive Way in front of the Hula Hula to a report of a man down in the street after being struck by a car around 1:10 AM Saturday. But, according to East Precinct radio reports, arriving officers quickly discovered the man was simply heavily inebriated and had been wandering in the street but was not hit. Seattle Fire was cleared from the scene and there were no reported arrests or serious injuries.
