Capitol Hill Community Post | Join the Capitol Hill Historical Society for Two Walking Tours of Lake View Cemetery

From the Capitol Hill Historical Society

The Capitol Hill Historical Society has announced its first walking tours since 2019. Join CHHS on July 17th to explore one of Seattle’s oldest and most notable historic sites, Capitol Hill’s own Lake View Cemetery.

As perhaps Seattle’s most famous cemetery, Lake View is the final resting place of many prominent early Seattleites, including the Dennys, Maynards, Mercers, Yeslers, and Chief Seattle’s daughter, Kikisoblu, also known as Princess Angeline. The tour will explore their stories, along with those of the notorious Madam Damnable, beloved martial artists and actors, Bruce and Brandon Lee, and more. Those on the tour will also gain insight into the history of the cemetery itself, as well as its place in the wider surrounding neighborhood.

There are two tours to choose from, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and the cost is just 20 dollars. The tour will be led by local attorney and history enthusiast, Jared Steed, who has previously led historical tours for Atlas Obscura, Rotary Club of Seattle, and the People’s Memorial Association.

Tickets are available from the CHHS store. While you’re there, check out their book collection, including two awesome and affordable Capitol Hill coloring books and the only comprehensive book on the neighborhood’s history, The Hill With a Future by Jacqueline Williams.

So cool! Thank you for publicizing and for CHHS for hosting. Hope to see more events like this in the future- Seattle has so much (rapidly disappearing) history.

I’ll sadly be out of town but I love Lakeview cemetery and would love to catch another tour of this area or elsewhere on the hill. Very cool!

Great! I am going. I went there twice, but it would be more interesting with the tour.
