So open and airy, you might feel like you’re sitting in a Buenos Aires cafe. The new Boca Argentine Bakery and Pizzeria is planning another weekend of soft openings as it prepares to open fully for Broadway days and Broadway nights on Capitol Hill.

“This one is very much a place where you can bring your friends, bring your family, bring your dog, bring your kids,” Andrea Casas-Beaux tells CHS.

Designed to feel “very reminiscent of Buenos Aires cafes,” Casas-Beaux tells CHS the new sister bakery and tapas joint to Broadway’s nearby Boca Restobar and Grill has debuted up the street with limited weekend service with plans to serve Wednesday through Sunday from around 10 AM to 6 PM. You’ll find “breads and unique pastries” from the new venture’s head bakers. One from Argentina, the other from Venezuela, Casas-Beaux says the cultural mix has already resulted in some special items making it into the Boca pastry case.

CHS reported here — a year ago this week — on the plans for the new project from Andrea’s father, longtime Seattle restaurateur Marco Casas-Beaux who opened his original Boca on Broadway in 2018. Marco says he has handed over many of his responsibilities to his daughter. “Argentines stick close. We’re first generations kids. The important part is I’m learning by my dad,” Andrea Casas-Beaux says.

On the same block as the Boca restaurant, the new bakery and pizzeria now fills the space left empty by the 2019 exit of Pagliacci after nearly 40 years on the street. Casas-Beaux says she hopes Boca can start a new tradition of artisanal pizza in the space.

The day-night aspirations will begin to be met when the project opens up more fully in a few weeks with plans for 7 AM to 10 PM hours. The daytime bakery and cafe scene will transition into evenings with rotating $8/$10/$12 tapas and cocktails. Pizza will, of course, span the entirety.

The debut of the Buenos Aires-inspired bakery adds to a burst of new South American flavor on Broadway after the Eastside-born coffee chain Kitanda opened with Brazilian lattes and cheese bread across from Capitol Hill Station. In May, Paparepas added its empanadas and arepas to Broadway’s growing South American menu.

You can find Boca Argentine Bakery and Pizzeria at 426 Broadway E. It will continue its soft opening starting Wednesday with hours from around 10 AM to 6 PM. A full day-night schedule will follow. Keep track of updates on bocarestobar.com.
