CHS Pics | After big Seattle events postponed last June, Pride 2022 starts with day of music and celebration in Volunteer Park

Sure it was corporate. And sure the sky was gay gray. But this is Seattle circa 2022. Summer starts around July 5th. Big companies love Pride. And people like a good excuse to gather, dance, and enjoy a beer garden in Volunteer Park. And then there is the whole overcoming the pandemic thing. Last year, Pride’s big events didn’t even happen in June.

Saturday, Seattle’s return of official™ Pride season kicked off with Seattle Pride in the Park, the annual music celebration that has filled Volunteer Park with bands and LGBTQ+ love and community in recent years before pandemic disruptions.

The day also included a Seattle PrideFest community clean-up in Cal Anderson. The organization — the official festival wing of the folks who put on the downtown Pride parade — will also also return to Capitol Hill with a street festival on Broadway and Family Pride and Queer Youth Pride events at Capitol Hill Station’s AIDS Memorial Pathway Plaza on June 25th.

Another Pride music festival also debuted on the weekend with the So Dreamy Music Festival focused on queer and trans people of color marking its inaugural edition with performances at Cafe Racer and Vermillion.

Back at Volunteer Park, Saturday’s day of music and celebration took place on the park’s conservatory lawn with construction around the park’s amphitheater still underway. The new amphitheater is almost ready for its debut. We’ll have more on when the construction fences will come down… soon.
