There are no vineyards on Capitol Hill but the neighborhood’s wine scene continues to grow. There are no apples orchards up here, either. But a new tasting room from Eaglemount Wine and Cider will move into the Zephyr mixed-use apartment building, located at 1656 E Olive Way, with plans to open August 1st.

“I am personally really excited for the tasting room to open as I myself live in the area and hope to use the space to not only provide our neighbors with wonderful products but to also provide a an inclusive and safe environment for the local Capitol Hill community,” Dayna Usa of Port Townsend-based Eaglemount tells CHS.

The winery and cidery has “has been producing hard ciders and meads sourced from heirloom apple trees in our homestead orchard planted in 1883 and from other homestead orchards on the Olympic Peninsula” for more than 20 years.

The Zephyr rose where the beloved B&O Espresso once stood. In 2015, Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery opened its second location in the corner space of the mixed use building, and will now neighbor Eaglemount.

The location of Eaglemount will allow for the business to smoothly blend into the neighborhood. For one, dessert at Hot Cakes is next door. Several drinking establishments sit within walking distance of the location, such as queer bar C.C. Attle’s and the sports hangout JJ’s Bar, which are both located across the street.

Meanwhile, Aluel Cellars, located on 801 E Thomas, was opened in 2016 with the purpose of bringing Washingtonian wines to the Capitol Hill area. Further tasting options in the neighborhood include Flight Wine + Chocolate, which allows customers to experience wines from all over Washington–and chocolate–without ever having to leave the city, and BIPOC-owned Footprint Wine Tap, which offers sustainable keg wine on tap from the Pacific Northwest. Add La Dive natural wine bar, new Wide Eyed Wines, and plans for Otherworld to your neighborhood itinerary. And don’t forget 15th Ave E oldtimer European Vine Selections, now celebrating 50 years in Seattle.

UPDATE: Good news for Aluel. The winemaker is adding a new tasting room this year in Ballard on Market St.

When it opens later this summer, Eaglemount’s new taproom will provide the label a space to showcase its wine creations using Eastern Washington grapes and ciders and meads including its San Juans Islands-sourced Quince Cider. It can also join the stops above in your next Capitol Hill wine and cider tour.

The Eaglemount taproom is planned to open in August at 1656 E Olive Way. Learn more at eaglemountwinery.com.
