CHS Pics | Go Beyond the Mountain with a *cool* visit to Capitol Hill’s Seattle Asian Art Museum

As part of our tours of the neighborhood and photos from the streets of Capitol Hill while CHS is out on a short summer vacation news break, CHS Pics stopped by the Seattle Asian Art Museum for what is only its second special exhibition since the debut of its major overhaul was overshadowed by the COVID pandemic.

Beyond the Mountain is an immersive exhibition with work by six contemporary Chinese artists who are “inspired by classical Chinese art forms to tackle urgent and complex present-day issues.” The works include video, multimedia installation, painting, and photography.

“Beyond the Mountain is a feast for the senses, with video, sound, images, and kinetic installation creating a dynamic experience ,” Foong Ping, Foster Foundation Curator of Chinese Art at SAAM said . “I hope visitors discover the eloquent voices of these artists — as I did when putting this exhibition together — in reflecting on many of the urgent questions we’re all facing together.”

You have time to visit the new exhibition — it will be on display through June 2023 — but this also might be the right time to lose yourself in the galleries. Part of its overhaul and expansion was the addition of new infrastructure and systems including, yes, improved cooling.

The Seattle Asian Art Museum is located at 1400 E Prospect. For more information on days, hours, and tickets, visit seattleartmuseum.org.
