Dick’s Drive-In is celebrating the reopening of its Broadway location after a more than six-month construction closure with a day of music and classic cars.

The Broadway restaurant, one of the few remaining active drive-ins in the city, is hosting a grand re-opening party Sunday:

We know it was a long wait but Broadway is now open! And we think it’s something worth celebrating so join us on July 10th for a Reopening Celebration to commemorate the end of a 6 month-long remodel of our Broadway location. Beginning at 10:30AM, we’ll have many family-friendly activities available to the public for free, including live music, a classic car display, a thrifting popup, a fun photo experience, face painting, and more!

The event will also feature music from performers including Payge Turner, La Fonda, Shaun Crawford, Drea Marilyn, and Carly Calbero.

Classic cars filling the parking lot along one of the most-walked, busiests pedestrian zones in the city across from Capitol Hill Station is classic Dick’s.

The nostalgic Capitol Hill throwback started 2022 closed for construction to add “new plumbing, electrical, built-in coolers, equipment” and new “exterior glazing” to the 68-year-old drive-in.

Along the way, the Dick’s construction fence turned into a street art gallery that was well decorated by taggers leaving their mark at the site of the iconic fast food landmark. In the meantime, the company brought in its popular burger and shake truck to Broadway from time to time to help quench Capitol Hill’s hunger during the wait.

The burger joint knows how to throw a party. In 2013, it shut down Broadway with its 60th anniversary celebration featuring Sir Mix-a-Lot.

Meanwhile, if you really want to get nostalgic, include a visit to Capitol Hill’s last remaining drive-thru to your Sunday itinerary. Ranch Bravo put its grandfathered rights to a drive-thru left over from the Kentucky Fried Chicken day back into motion in 2015 on E Pine.

Today,I had walked to Broadway from 22nd ave for the farmers market.
I bought kale, rainbow chard , peas and walked back over the hill, home.
How things and I have changed. At 6 years old in 1959 we would have driven our 1957 Buick station wagon from 15th Ave to somehow manage to maneuver into the parking lot. Eating cheeseburger , fries and a shake.
Now I can’t even look at that meal without experiencing heart arrhythmia.
Good for you if you can!
Enjoy all, Dick’s is a worthy imperfect institution !
