With reporting by Elizabeth Turnbull

Amid the bars, restaurants, clubs, and shops, there is a collaborative arts space making a place for creatives to connect and work on the backside of Pike/Pine.

Passable is a makerspace that has survived the pandemic and now inviting new members for “playful collaboration at the intersection of art and technology” and “access to shared resources and exhibition opportunities.”

Located at 1005 E Union, the shop offers space for “both clean and ‘dirty’ projects” depending on the type of art and technology work you may want to pursue. Resources include woodworking and power tools, an electronics workstation, a Glowforge laser cutter, And 3D printing.

And, yes, pinball machines.

The nonprofit Passable is a project of Totally Legit, LLC, part of a family of entrepreneurs and creators also at work to create the longgggggg awaited Time Warp Pike/Pine pinball arcade bar.

Passable has already started welcoming visitors with shows and exhibitions including last month’s Homo-Erotica Homo-Sexual exhibit of historical photographs as well as works from well-known artists and icons and photographers including Jim French, Bruce of LA, Bob Mizer, Tom of Finland, and Target Studios. The show also highlighted queer spaces like Mineshaft, The Eagle and Powerhouse.

Part of Passable’s exhibit included making the works available for people to pick from the collection and purchase items of interest.

Meanwhile, you can also sign up to join Passable. For $75 a month, you can get 24/7 access to the studio.

Members will also need to live up to a code of conduct to help keep the Passable community working.

Passable is located at 1005 E Union. Learn more at totallylegitllc.com/passable.
