Police were investigating after a man was shot Tuesday afternoon outside Harborview.

According to SPD, the altercation outside the busy First Hill hospital and trauma center was reported just before 4 PM with reports that a man had been shot and a woman had fired shots into the air during the fracas.

Police say the suspect and the victim were in an “altercation outside of the hospital when one of the men went to a nearby vehicle and retrieved a firearm” then shot the victim. A woman reportedly with the two men fired a handgun into the air during the incident.

Hospital staff began treating the victim as officers arrived.

SPD reports the woman was arrested but the male suspect fled the scene.

Police were searching for a vehicle seen leaving the area following the 9th Ave shooting.

There were no other reported injuries and no additional arrests.

Harborview is the regional trauma center serving a large swath of the Northwest including Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho and is where Seattle’s first responders transport people requiring significant care including gunshot wound victims from across the city.
