  • Flipped Jeep: 10th Ave E was briefly closed to traffic Monday morning after a Jeep reportedly flipped onto its side after a crash near St. Mark’s just before 10:30 AM. Seattle Fire initiatially rallied a full “Rescue Extrication” but reported that occupants of the vehicles involved in the collision were able to make it out on their own. No serious injuries were reported. 10th was reported back open by just after 11 AM.
  • East Precinct prowler busted: Police caught a Capitol Hill car prowler in the act — outside their East Precinct headquarters. According to SPD, a 911 caller reported the thief at work on a vehicle parked in the alley behind the East Precinct at 12th and Pine just after midnight Sunday morning. Officers were able to see the perpetrator in the act on the precinct’s security cameras and took the man into custody as he tried to flee the alley, SPD reports. There were no reported injuries.
  • Loud boom: Did you hear a loud explosion Monday morning? Several people in the CHS Facebook group reported hearing the boom early Monday just before 6 AM but Seattle Police weren’t called to the scene and Seattle Fire didn’t respond to the area at that time. For now, we’ll go with fireworks as the likely answer.
  • Mail theft suspect reported: A manager at a Capitol Hill condo building ripped off by a brazen mail thief has provided security images and details of the theft string that has hit other buildings in the area. The theft reported here happened early on the morning of Wednesday, November 30th and ended when the suspect was confronted by a resident. According to the building manager, the man chased from the building was using a set of keys reportedly stolen from a United States Postal Service worker to access mail compartments in the building. Stolen or copied keys are a regular menace for apartment and condo building mail facilities. In this instance, the building disabled the USPS lock at its front door and was able to provide its mail carriers with an access code. There have been no reported arrests in the incident.

Re: blast at 6am. I don’t think it was fireworks. There was a quick flash of light before the thunder-clap-ish noise

Agreed, it was so loud I thought it was a snow boom or a thunder clap or one of those other exceptionally loud booms that occasionally but rarely happen here in cold weather.

The same postal key thief hit our building a couple nights ago at 1732 18th Ave. after comparing various people’s videos / photos with the images from our building it looks to be all one dude. A postal worker said this has been going on since thanksgiving and is under investigation. It would have been nice to receive a heads up from the postal service before we lost a pile of Christmas gifts…
