  • Christmas tree fire: A reported Christmas tree fire in the lobby of The Lyric brought a large response to the Broadway apartment building Wednesday night. Seattle Fire says the just before 9 PM blaze was contained to the 10th Ave E-side lobby where the tree and a couch reportedly burned. There were no reported injuries. Fire investigators were working to determine what caused the tree to catch fire.
  • Madrona carjacking: Police and the King County Guardian One helicopter circled areas around the shores of Lake Washington Wednesday night searching for the suspect in a short-lived carjacking. Police were called to the area around 34th and Pike after the victim reported a man had stolen their white Prius car at gunpoint. SPD found the vehicle crashed but empty nearby and began a ground search for the suspect which was eventually joined by the helicopter in the air. The search continued into the night with police checking out “hot spots” in wooded areas of the neighborhood identified by the chopper’s thermal camera. We’ll check with SPD to see if there were any arrests. There were no reported injuries.
  • 22nd/Galer crash: A steep and icy Capitol Hill side street claimed a car late Wednesday night. A driver reportedly smashed through a guardrail at 22nd and Galer in a just before midnight crash into a community staircase area. Seattle Fire was called to treat the driver for non life threatening injuries and a tow truck was dispatched to try to remove the car from the greenspace.
