ATM heist: A cracker-jack team of thieves made fast work of ripping off an entire cash-filled ATM machine from the front lobby of the Swedish First Hill medical center in the 700 block of Broadway. Police units across the city responded to the call early last Tuesday morning after the 1 AM heist. Unlike the ongoing plague of smash and grab ATM thefts involving vehicles crashing into storefronts for burglars to gain entry and steal the machines, last week’s operation was a more carefully orchestrated operation involving multiple getaway vehicles and a team of at least five thieves who reportedly entered the lobby, lifted the unsecured machine, and made a dash to a waiting minivan. According to East Precinct radio reports, police were looking for a Dodge pick-up, silver minivan, and white Toyota 4-door involved in the heist. The suspects were described only as five black males, one wearing a bright yellow vest. The vehicles were reported leaving the scene in multiple directions. The van was spotted at one point but police reported there was not a view of its plate because the tailgate was still up as it sped away. SPD did not post a report about the brazen rip-off to its Blotter or Significant Incident Reports websites but confirmed the basic details of the incident and said there have been no arrests. Smaller ATMs like the one stolen can weigh as much as 200 to 300 pounds when full.- Armed carjacking reported: A man told police he waited hours to report a gunpoint carjacking robbery early this Wednesday morning at a 12th Ave gas station:
At 0230 hours, a male victim was fueling his vehicle when he began to assist another motorist having trouble fueling their car. Victim said that 3 unknown suspects with masks approached him and one of them stuck a pistol in his face and said they were taking the car. The victim stated that he was scared, and his phone had died therefore he did not call 911 right away. After a couple of hours he reported it and met officers at the gas station. The victim provided information to officers and the vehicle was located with the suspects in it. One suspect remained in the vehicle while the others fled on foot.
SPD reports the one suspect was taken into custody and the vehicle was recovered. There were no reported injuries.

OMG, I hate to say it, but those thieves who took the ATM from the Swedish First Hill lobby DESERVE that ATM! LOL. I mean WTF Swedish. I KNOW you have security, there’s a desk RIGHT THERE looking at the ATM. They have night security to KEEP people from just walking in off the street “after visiting hours” and wandering through the building. They have cameras everywhere. Did they just sit back and drink coffee and WATCH these guys unhook the ATM (even if it “just” took 3 or 4 minutes) and did nothing? No alarms? No worry about what these folks are doing in the hospital at that hour? If Swedish has abandoned all it’s security, those thieves deserve that ATM…shame on Swedish. This wasn’t a “middle of the night” smash and grab at a deserted retail spot, this building is staffed 24/7 with limited access at night. So again…WTF Swedish? :)
