Lots of neighborhood mysteries pop up in the CHS Facebook Group — What were those sirens? Why is that business closed? When will that business open? — but a recent post had neighbors stumped.
What is this structure at the corner of 19th and John Thomas?
“At first I thought it was a pull-up bar and dip bars .. so I was like: ‘Oh sweet … the city is installing some sort of fitness trail around the neighborhood,'” the poster wrote. “But at second glance the pull-up bar is awfully high … So now I’m wondering if these are some sort of structures installed by the homeowner to grow plants around.”
“Following.. I am curious about these too,” the first response on the post read. More would follow.
Suggestions ranged from the outdoor gym idea to a cat tree to the expansion of a little free library.
But things worked themselves out in the group as they tend to do. Turns out, the neighbor with the answer is also a member. Yes, it is a gym, of sorts:
Okay – I’ll claim this “gym” it was the brainchild of my quite tall son. He thought it would add to our community joy ! It pleases me so many of you are enjoying. Our house has been in my family for 43 years and counting. My dad recently passed away and we plan to leave here till we pass the house to our kids.
The neighbor said they’ll also take one of the ideas as a suggestion. If you see a new platform added to the structure, well, that’s probably a new spot to sit and read while your friend does chin-ups.

YES! I saw these being installed a year or two ago, but never anyone using them… until last week!
Forgive the picking of nits but, according to the street sign, shouldn’t that be E. Thomas rather than John?
Not a nit! Thanks. Don’t know why my brain does that with John/Thomas.
Because Thomas turns into John at 20th (and best as I can tell the streets on the two sides of the “Miller Triangle” between 20th and 21st are both John). That’s why nobody could ever find my house!
