Teen arrives at hospital after another shooting near Garfield High School — UPDATE

For the second time in a week, a shooting around Garfield High School left a teen injured and the school on an after-the-bell lockdown.

According to East Precinct radio updates, gunfire was reported just before 5:30 PM near 26th and Jefferson behind the school. Arriving officers found shell casings and were looking for suspects reported fleeing on foot and a vehicle with bullet damage reported leaving the area.

Another update reported a 16-year-old gunshot wound victim had been dropped at Harborview with non-life threatening injuries to the lower body.

UPDATE: SPD confirmed its Gun Violence Reduction Unit is investigating the shooting but a spokesperson said it could not confirm if the teen victim at Harborview was related to the incident near Garfield.

UPDATE x2: SPD later confirmed the teen was injured in the shooting but provided no additional details about the incident.

Seattle Police and Seattle Fire were called to the parking lot at Garfield High School late last Thursday afternoon after a shootout in front of the school that sent  a 19-year-old to the hospital. There were no reported arrests.

No comments? This is so frequent that it’s not even noteworthy.

CHB is the only news outlet reporting these incidents.

Sad but true…

Wonder why that is? It is overwhelming to live so close to this violence and at the beginning of the warm weather months… I REALLY hope SPS is investing in some safety measures for the students.

This is overwhelming and sad. It’s hard to send my kid to school at Garfield. Is there even an extra cop presence there? This time, not even a message from the principal. Last time he said there was “extra security.” I don’t even know what that means, it would be good to have clarity. Why did the perpetrators think they could get away with this – and did? The silence is the sadness and hopelessness of the community. Our cops are stretched really thin – I’d like to send a few of our anti-cop council members out instead to keep an eye on the streets, someone could easily have been murdered, their life shut before it started, and I don’t see a resolution, this could happen again next week. I’d also like the cops to move some of their thin force there and show a presence. Even though they are stretched thin, surely they can nip this in the bud just by being there. Please? Can we show some uniform up there?
