Reported robbery leads to shooting outside First Hill bank — UPDATE

A man was shot in the leg in a reported armed robbery attempt on the street outside a First Hill bank Thursday afternoon.

Police say the 26-year-old was shot just before 1 PM in the 1200 block of Madison. Arriving officers provided aid to the victim and began a search for the suspect who fled on foot near the Key Bank and may have left the scene in a vehicle, according to a witness account.

Police say the suspect was described as a black male in his 20s to 30s, with a large Afro-style haircut and wearing a green shirt, black pants, and white shoes.

The victim was transported to nearby Harborview Medical Center in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury.

SPD said it was investigating to learn what events led us to the shooting.

There were no reported arrests.
