Authorities predicted slippery and a little more dangerous than normal roads with the first serious rains in months hitting Seattle over the weekend. It has, indeed, been a busy weekend for car crashes and 911 calls. But not all of the activity on the streets this weekend can be blamed on the rain.
- Seattle Police are investigating a case of “property description” after this attack busted several windows of a Metro coach near 25th and Madison. Here’s a description of the incident by a CHS reader:
I got on at 25th and Madison and there was a confrontation going on at the back of the bus between a man and some women, two younger guys were standing between ready to get in the middle if something happened. Not entirely sure what the fight was about, but the line that set everyone off was the man saying “I will walk all over your black ass”. At that point two of the younger guys grabbed at him to throw him off the bus, by this time the driver had already called for support. The man refused to get off so one of the younger guys got off the bus, the man, upset that the younger guy grabbed him got off too and started yelling at him that he wasn’t going to go anywhere.
By this time the woman the man was yelling at was calling the cops and the bus driver was telling people that help was on the way. The younger guy and his girlfriend decided to get back on the bus, and the bus driver closed the doors so that the older man who was yelling couldn’t get back on. He then stood in front of the bus so she couldn’t leave and began bending and breaking the windshield wipers and pounding on the windows with his fist. At some point he got one of the windshield wipers off and began busting the windows, causing glass to begin flying in to the bus. He busted every window on the right side and the two on the front, and continued pounding on the windows. From the time someone called the cops it too about 10 minutes for them to show up (one car no lights or anything), then they calmly walked up to the man who was still yelling and had the windshield wiper in his hand.
- Police were called to the intersection of Melrose and Pine early Sunday morning to investigate a reported hit and run collision just after 4a. Medic units were dispatched to the scene but we don’t yet have details on injuries in the incident.
- Police responded to a collision near 15th and Galer Friday night and investigated the driver for DUI. Medics were not called to the scene.
There were also a couple of medical incidents of note not involving streets. Best wishes to the Seattle U athletes on their recoveries.
- Medics responded to a reported Seattle Fire “assault with weapons” aid call early Sunday morning near Pike and Boylston. We don’t yet have details on the callout and there are no SPD records, yet, of a dispatch to the scene. UPDATE: Seattle Fire says units responded to Neighbours to a report of a woman who suffered a minor injury in an assault.
- : Medics were called to a scary incident during the Seattle U rugby club’s match on Saturday at E Cherry’s Logan Field. Seattle Fire units responded to a call of two male players suffering head injuries, one knocked and unconscious and the other fading in and out. Both men were transported to Harborview but, according to teammates, were released later that night with the most serious immediate injuries being some apparent broken facial bones. UPDATE: Turns out, three players suffered injuries according to this brief provided to us by the school:
two SU students were injured while playing in the Rugby Club match at Seattle U Park. Both students were treated by SFD paramedics for possible concussions. SFD transported the students to Harborview for evaluation and follow up care. DPS was advised by HRL today that the students were released from the hospital yesterday, and one will receive some follow up care this week. A third injury occurred later in the Rugby match when a Bon Appetite staff member, on the SU Rugby team also suffered a possible concussion. SFD medics cleared the Bon Appetite staff person to be driven to a local hospital for follow up evaluation, which he did.
The mean streets of Seattle. It has not always been this way, and is clearly getting “meaner.”
Back in my day crime was something we’d heard about from the old country but no crime ever actually occurred here. The bus drivers gave everyone lollipops and strangers on the street were always quick with a how-do-ya-do?!
We had cops but as far as I know they were only around when traffic needed directing. Then we got a stop light, I’m not sure what they did all day after that advancement.
Okay, it isn’t honest to say there was no crime. I do remember little Billy from down the street stealing a piece of penny candy from old man Jones’ corner store. He ate it but was immediately filled with such guilt he raced back to tell his mom what he’d done. His father took him down to confess to old man Jones and they agreed that he could sweep out the stock room and they’d call it even. Oh Billy, you trouble maker!

Is the shitty response time from Spd. 10 min? Wtf? I could run from the precinct to 25th and Madison in less than 10!
That does seem slow. Fights on public transportation should have a high priority especially given the number of people who are potentially confined in a dangerous situation.
Yeah, back in the day when nobody was around to report on crime like this..there was no crime like this.
It seems like Metro try’s to use it’s police instead of the quickest police who can respond and thus you get these pathetic and unsafe slow response times that are frankly unacceptable. Look at the damage this freak was able to cause because the police took their sweet time to respond.
