OK, suckers, this one is for you. The Volunteer Park Conservatory is making a big to-do about the impending bloom of its stinky corpse flower.
The flower is available for viewing (and sniffing) daily at the Conservatory, 1400 E Galer St. at the north end of Volunteer Park, daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; the Conservatory will stay open later in the afternoon as the bloom appears. Conservatory staff will photograph and measure the flower on the “amorphometer” at noon daily, and will post the results at www.volunteerparkconservatory.org
Amazingly, while corpse flowers only bloom once ever 10 years, the VP Conservatory seems to have a stinky blooming flower nearly every year — here is a picture from 2006. Couldn’t find one from 2007. Those Conservatory people will do anything to get you in the door. Don’t believe the hype.
