Some pics of Belmont & Republican fire.

Wow. JSeattle beat me to the post about a fire across the street from my house! Jeeze. :) Here are some pics:

Of note: This house has always been a fire hazard. I’m not sure if it was still occupied, as it was slated (like so many other Capitol Hill buildings) to be torn down to become condos. If so, I hope their nice cat is okay.

Save the B&O Espresso building… and their Chorizo with Ranchero scramble!

Mmm. I had brunch at B&O Espresso today and was sad to find out that they took the chorizo with ranchero scramble off of their regular menu. Thankfully, it was on special this morning. I savored every bite.

I also learned that there is a movement to save the B&O Espresso building! These cards were available in their entrance/waiting area.

Chow Food’s “Dowd but not Out” at Coastal Kitchen

Expect long lines at the Coastal Kitchen on Thursday. Chow Foods is having a promotion this between 5pm and 10pm where their food will be priced based on the close of the markets that day.

Food entrees will be based on the Dow. (“If it closes at 8300 (gulp!) then you won’t pay any more than $8.30 for any item on our food menu.”)

House wine, draft beers and well drinks will be priced with the NASDAQ. (“If it dips to 1250, then our depression era pricing on these libation will be just a buck twenty five!”)

Newest addition to night life on Olive – The Buck

I’m really enjoying the night life developments happening on Olive… First the Saint, then the Elite and Tacos Gringos. And now… The Buck, located right next to the ‘antique’ shop.

It has been under construction for a few months now. And, actually, at first I thought it was an addition to the antique shop because the decor is so kitchy. I was happy to see the bar and alcohol racks go in a few weeks ago though. And last week it was made official with a soft launch opening.

The Service Board ‘monument’ requests volunteers,

I saw this ‘monument’ on my walk to the gym today, so I stopped to read it. I’d figured there was something in the news that I had missed.

But no… the ‘monument’ was set up outside of The Saint to bring attention to an organization called The Service Board.

There were many people stopping to look and read. The Service Board looks like a great organization, check it out.

From their brochure: “A lot of high-schoolers across Seattle lack positive role models. At the Service Board, we’re ready to step up to the task. Our locally organized team of compassionate mentors give students the support and the setting to be who they want to be.

Best CHS bartender: I vote for Eric @ The Deluxe.

I’m going to put my vote in for Eric at the Deluxe for the best bartender on the Hill. He was on hiatus for a while, but, to my delight, came back about a year ago.

He’s so suave, I can’t get over it. Plus, Eric meets all of my ‘good bartender qualifications’:
(1) Good bedside manner. I.e. Is sociable. Doesn’t chat you up too much… or too little.
(2) Doesn’t make you feel like you’re ‘not cool enough’. (As experienced in places like The War Room and Faire.)
(3) Has a stiff pour.

Any other contenders?
