Stop by Goethe Pop Up Seattle to see Max Planck Images of Science, striking images captured from scientific research at some of the Max Planck Society’s institutions. Free & open to the public.

Science often pushes back the boundaries of the known world to explore new topics and make the invisible visible. In the process of this work, a purely scientific documentation of research objects is created. And sometimes these images feature surprising aesthetic forms and structures. They are abstract works of art from a world normally hidden to the human eye.

Each year, scientists from more than 80 research institutes of the Max Planck Society enter images showcasing their work from the most various research fields. The most spectacular images form the basis of a travelling exhibit, which has been shown with great success in a variety of locations around the world, such as the Deutsches Museum in Munich, the ars electronica in Linz/Austria, the Frost Museum of Science in Miami, the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg, and the German Science Centre in Cairo.

In Seattle Images of Science is a collaboration between the Max Planck Society, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, and the Goethe Pop Up Seattle.

About GoetheSeattle

ABOUT THE GOETHE POP UP SEATTLE Located in Capitol Hill’s Chophouse Row building, the Goethe Pop Up Seattle is a temporary branch of the Goethe-Institut, the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. Throughout 2020, we will be hosting and supporting an international program of exhibitions, films, lectures, performances, public discussions, and more. Our goal is to present German culture in Seattle and help shape a current understanding of Germany today. Our program offers an opportunity to engage with themes and questions relevant to contemporary German culture and society. We organize a broad range of events and support projects in the fields of film and new media, arts, theater and dance, music, literature, architecture, and more. The events take place in our space and at partner venues around Seattle. We collaborate with local artists, organizations, universities, and schools with an interest in Germany and its language and culture.
