Virtual golf bar Five Iron Golf has confirmed it is swinging into Seattle with a 12,000 square-foot venue set to open by the end of the year on Capitol Hill.
CHS broke the news on the project in May thanks to City of Seattle construction permits that revealed details of the new project in the Pike/Pine preservation-boosted Kelly Springfield building on 11th Ave neighboring the soon to reopen Rhino Room.
The new 11th Ave virtual golf facility, restaurant, and bar will occupy the ground floor of WeWork Capitol Hill the Five Iron Golf company announced Wednesday and “will be home to twelve custom-built golf simulators featuring multiple high-speed cameras to capture every angle of the golf swing.”
“The new location also will offer complimentary top-of-the-line equipment, custom club fitting at The Fitting Lab — recently named a Golf Digest Top 100 Clubfitter — widescreen TVs, shuffleboard, and a full-service restaurant and bar serving creatively curated and seasonal fare,” the press release reads. “The colorful, urban space will provide guests with a break from the ordinary and an opportunity to practice and play like the pros with actionable data, instant video analysis, and virtual rounds on close to two hundred of the world’s greatest courses,” Five Iron says.
WeWork opened its Capitol Hill coworking and office space facility in late 2019 with a plan for multiple floors of offices for independent workers and with deals in place for big clients like Microsoft to eat up entire floors of the building. The site was previously Capitol Hill’s Value Village and, way back, an early launch point for REI.
Capitol Hill and Pike/Pine continue to be a target for national retail and entertainment concepts looking to be part of the area’s arts venues, clubs, bars, restaurants, and nightlife. CHS reported here on the apparently pandemic-scuttled plans for a new Glossier showroom on 10th Ave. Shef, a startup aiming to become the “Airbnb of home cooked meals,” has opened a new Pike/Pine delivery center there in the meantime but we’re told the Glossier project may not be dead.
Meanwhile, new entertainment venues are lining up to join the Pike/Pine scene including the new home for live music hangout Cafe Racer across the street on 11th Ave. This 10th Ave pinball arcade bar we first wrote about pre-pandemic will probably have a different name but is also being planned as a coming soon addition to the Pike/Pine fun. Ox Billiards, meanwhile, is bringing snooker and pool to its new underground space at Broadway and Pike.
The press release includes a few lines worthy of chuckles and probably more than a few sighs from Pike/Pine longtimers.
“We are thrilled to have Five Iron Golf join our Capitol Hill community,” Aaron Romigh, West Territory Vice President for WeWork, said about the arrival of its new tenant on 11th Ave. “WeWork is built on innovation and creating inspiring, flexible spaces – spaces that inspire our member companies to come together, to collaborate. Having Five Iron join our community was an easy decision given their success in connecting urban communities through shared golf experiences.”
“Five Iron’s mission is rooted in inspiring and connecting people through golf while celebrating creativity and inclusivity,” Jared Solomon, CEO and Co-Founder of Five Iron Golf, said. “Seattle’s rich culture paired with its dedication to growing a community of originality makes it a perfect match and we are delighted to invite the residents of Seattle to play.”
Five Iron Golf promises its “signature design aesthetic, which is anchored in creating a multi-sensory interior through the blending of graffiti, murals from local artists, neon signs, and modern lounge furniture” for the Capitol Hill location.
Construction is expected to begin by fall with a planned opening by the end of the year.
