Seattle Police and the department’s Arson/Bomb Squad shut down the area around the Starbucks Roastery Wednesday morning to investigate a suspicious item.
Officers cordoned off the area around the Pike and Melrose coffee complex starting just after 6:30 AM when it was reported “two males in ski masks” had been seen leaving boxes outside the popular tourist destination, according to East Precinct radio updates.
The corner was shut down as several officers and the bomb squad investigated the suspicious items and checked the area. SPD had the items removed and reopened the area around 8:15 AM without incident.
We’re checking with SPD to learn more about the situation and any details on what was found.
UPDATE: SPD tells CHS “two masked people placed a suspicious package near the front door of a business” and confirmed the items were “non hazardous” but did not provide further details of what was found.
UPDATE x2: A Starbucks spokesperson declined to identify what was inside the box but assured CHS all employees at the Roastery location were safe and business was continuing as normal.
