Siam on Broadway says goodbye

Anybody know what happened to Siam on Broadway? Or of plans for that block now that Siam, El Tajin and the Jade Pagoda are empty?

(update by jseattle — Looks like I have some reporting to do on what’s next for the building.)

Hello Seattle has this picture of the goodbye note:

I will very much miss their vegetarian pad thai.

However, that building is very much in need of a makeover.

I am not surprised to see this close, as I really never saw them doing much business. it seems that this strip is cursed and I don’t see anyone else moving in until the apartments are finished where the old QFC was located. Until then, I fear we will have to live with this blight.

Here’s something I found on the Seattle Times blog: >http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/allyoucaneat/2009/05/0

I really hope this doesn’t become another huge condo project. Three on this block is plenty. They should renovate and keep the Siam/Tanjin build, do a small in-fill project at the Chinese Restaurant Site, and make the end parking lot into a pocket park/community garden. Man, I wish I was a developer with millions in cash…

Thank you Siam! It was a great place and I have tons of memories of eating there with old friends who have long since moved away.

For those of us left behind… I suggest going to Jamjuree at 15th & Republican… it’s really good

…but I prefer Rom Mai Thai, where they’re friendlier. Poppy is is that building, too, right?

SIAM ON BROADWAY has been my FAVORITE THAI place in Seattle hands down since I moved here in 1996. LINDA is AWESOME and a true friend whom I always enjoyed seeing/chatting with when I was picking up food on the way home after a busy day. LINDA, ARE YOU OUT THERE SOMEWHERE? I would love to say hi/stay in touch. I was so bummed to call for take out last night and find that the number had been disconnected. I’ve tried other Thai places but they just don’t come anywhere close to Siam on Broadway. Where will I go? Linda, Any plans for OPENING UP somewhere else? (I’m hoping!) I MISS YOU,the always AWESOME STAFF, your updates on the grandkids, or the big fish fishing trips! I feel very upset that OVERSIZED, FACELESS, & UGLY, BUISNESS/ CONDO PROJECTS have just claimed yet another VITAL, PERSONAL, & UNIQUE LINK to OUR INCREASINGLY STERILZED CAPITOL HILL COMMUNITY! You were THE BEST!

I had hoped they were just closed for renovation — how sad that they’re completely gone. The staff, food, and service there were all top notch. The staff across the street at Rom Mai Thai are also nice, but the food is disgusting — barely edible.

For years now we’ve been asking for the revitalization of Broadway — this is a definitive case of “be careful what you wish for” :(

Dang. Miss Siam. At least there’s one on Lake Union.

Never got to try El Tajin. Yelp reviews for Galeria’s suggest Tajin was better.

literally, when we went to Siam to get takeout one day after work and found that it was GONE. We’d only just been there the week before. Lynda, please please PLEASE re-open Siam in another spot on the Hill!! In the old Dilettante space perhaps?
