Dumpling Dojo has two weeks left on Broadway + Marjorie has new opening date

Dumpling Dojo opened in March 2010 with the knowledge that 616 Broadway E would be a temporary home. They had been informed by the landlord that once the 230 Broadway East project reached its final stages, Bank of America would claim 616 Broadway E as a temporary home and Dumpling Dojo would have to find a new space.  CHS has learned from Dumpling Dojo owner Uyen Pham that Dojo will have to move by the last week of May:

Just wanted to give you an update on my restaurant in case you wanted to inform your readers.  As most people know this space is only temporary for me and looks like I’ll have to be moving out sooner than expected.  Originally I was supposed to be able to stay through the summer, but the bank is starting there construction June 1st.  Unfortunately, I’ll only be open for about 2 weeks b/c they’ll be doing pre-construction work.  If readers haven’t had a chance to come in they don’t have much longer.  I have had quite a few readers of the blog come in and really want to thank you for the support.  I’m still searching for a new location and revisiting the idea of a mobile food truck. If anyone has questions they can contact us at [email protected] or follow us on our website

We are aware that Dumpling Dojo has received mixed reviews in Seattle Media. Here’s Seattle Metropolitan: “They’re delightfully crispy and fresh, about three times the size of your typical sushi-bar gyoza and with none of the flavor loss brought on by freezer fatigue.”  Lindy West of The Stranger disagrees: “However, now that I have twice eaten at Dumpling Dojo, I am sad for a different reason. I can report that I would rather eat a pile of soggy money than dine again at Dumpling Dojo.”

Meanwhile, over on Yelp, the opinions vary just as greatly.  If you would like to decide for yourself, check out the dumplings on their final two-week run.

On the other side of the Hill, Marjorie was scheduled to open this past Tuesday, May 11.  However, due to construction delays, the new opening date will be 5/18/10.

Does anyone know if BofA is taking over that entire area where all three restaurants were? I was surprised the other day to notice that all three of the former restaurant spaces (thai, japanese, mexican) are now empty (knowing that Dumpling Dojo was temporary, thanks to CHS). Will the bank be taking over these three spaces? Given that the old Jade Pagoda is a construction site, as well, this means nearly that entire block will be out of commission for a while. Poor Broadway just can’t get a break!
