C.R. Douglas on Starbucks on 15th Closing

Yesterday, C.R. Douglas penned an elegy of sorts to the Starbucks on 15th in Crosscut. I was about to correct him, because he referred to a Starbucks close by that he could walk to as an alternative. Is he aware that the Starbucks on Madison and 22nd is also closing?

There’s also the one on the North end of Broadway

So for a while there was the Safeway one, the one in Group Health, and the one that’s now closing. It was a little crazy. I’m not Mr. Anti-Starbucks, but I’m glad to see that we’ve culled their numbers by 66%.

He may be referring to the one a block away in the Safeway at 15th/John.

I’m surprised they’re not closing the Safeway one. Guess the overhead for the 15th store is dramatically higher? The 15th Ave store always has people hanging out in it giving the appearance they are making money but guess they are just hanging out all day and bringing a thermos filled with coffee instead :-)

There was a lady petitioning to keep the starbucks open. I don’t think starbucks will listen to a petition. But really, if you’re going to take up a social cause it shouldn’t be to save a corporate restuarant.

I don’t see the problem. If this Starbucks is an important place in this woman’s life (or in the lives of others she cares about) she likely feels compelled to make an effort to save the place.

Judging or condemning w/out more info can = egg on face (See also: Segway story in slog).
