To all of our wonderful Canadian neighbors on the hill — Happy Canada Day!
Most Canadians I know seem to have a better understanding of American history than most Americans. Therefore, it should be no surprise that we haven’t a clue what Canada Day officially celebrates.
No signs of celebration up here. Salmon, moose and bears are not celebrating. Rednecks on ATVs, not celebrating. Subsistence net fisherpeople, not celebrating. Over and out.
Canada Day (once know as “Dominion Day”) celebrates the confederation of Canada in 1867. Kinda like our “Independance Day”, but we weren’t actually truly independent of British governance until about 1982 when the current Constitution came into effect severing the remaining political ties to the United Kindgdom.
Regards,
Your friendly neighborhood Canadian expat.
Happy Canada Day Eh!
