Sunday 7-27 @ Bway Farmers Market & article

From the Neighborhood Farmer’s Market Alliance [[email protected]]

The email includes an article from the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce – djc.com – regarding the sale of the Bank of America – Farmers Market site. I did not include the article here. Instead, here is the link to the article but it does require an online subscription to access it.

Important points from the article:
Construction to begin in the spring of 2010
The market can stay “until right before construction begins.”
Farmers market group has looked at nearby Nagle Place (but there are concerns about fire truck access)
Also considering open spaces at Seattle Central but haven’t contacted college officials yet.

Hello Market Shoppers,

Some of you may already be aware that the Broadway Farmers Market will be locating to a new home starting in 2010. An article reprinted below gives some details about the recent sale of the lot where the market takes place, and some of the difficulties that farmers markets face in dense urban environments.

This Sunday, look for more pole beans, apricots, berries, and maybe even some sweet corn! Also, delicious fresh wild-caught salmon from Two If By Seafood. Cherries are still very plentiful too. And Olsen Farm is back at the market with grass-fed beef and yummy potatoes – so with Toboton Creek goats and Stokesberry chickens, this market is a fabulous destination for anyone interested in sustainable, local, humanely-raised, high-quality meats and poultry.*

Of course, vegetables are piling up on the market tables as we enter peak summer harvest season – the next couple of months will bring us an amazing bounty of beautiful summer fruits and vegetables.

The Broadway Farmers Market takes place every Sunday, 11 am – 3 pm, from May 11 through Nov. 23, in the lot behind the Bank of American at Broadway & E. Thomas. The market is operated by the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, a non-profit (501 (c) 3) organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening Washington’s small family farms. Your tax deductible donation helps the NFMA continue to grow and serve our farmers and communities – you can make a donation at any time at the market info tent. To find out more about how you can support the market and our local farmers, visit us at www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org.

The Broadway Sunday Farmers Market also accepts EBT/Quest cards (food stamps), as well as WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons.
